Danny and The Deep Blue Sea
By John Patrick Shanley
Directed and performed by Charlie Cousins and Laura Maitland

A man and a woman – both battered, volatile outcasts – meet in a run-down bar in the Bronx. They strike up a disturbing conversation that unravels everything in them. As they battle their pasts, and each other, they must decide if they dare to lower their defenses and risk truly being seen, or instead go down in a blaze of destructive glory. One thing’s for sure… nothing will ever be the same.

From the playwright who brought us Doubt, Moonstruck, and Outside Mullingar, Danny and the Deep Blue Sea is a furious, raw, and darkly comic portrait of two broken people fumbling in the dark towards hope.

Directed and performed by Charlie Cousins (Arms and the ManSTC, The Doctor Blake Mysteries ABC) and Laura Maitland (The Lonesome WestKin Collective, Yes, Prime Minister), this subversive, back to basics event promises audiences a unique theatrical experience. Drawing on the approach of renowned Director and Teacher Mike Alfreds, no two shows will be the same. Harnessing the dynamic nature of live story-telling, every night becomes an immersive experience where players and audience see where the journey takes them.

Not to be missed, Danny and The Deep Blue Sea promises to be a season where improvised, minimalistic theatre and a much lauded script combine to create compelling viewing.

“An explosive, deeply affecting study of alienation and the redemptive power of love.” – New York Daily News

“…the equivalent of sitting at ringside watching a prize fight that concludes in a loving embrace.” – New York Times.
